Interoperability is assessed relative to the interaction and operational context in which compatibility is required.

System Boundary

The robot interoperability boundary separates the interoperability relation from the mechanisms, standards, and adjacent system functions that may enable or use it.

Within Boundary

Interoperability between distinct robotic systems, components, or supporting systems; relevant compatibility conditions; and the operational context of the assessed interaction.

At Boundary

Communication mechanisms, interfaces, protocols, representations, semantics, control and coordination mechanisms, supporting infrastructure, and standards may establish or constrain compatibility.

Outside Boundary

Communication, connectivity, integration, modularity, standardization, fleet management, orchestration, performance optimization, and vendor comparison as independent subjects.
